On May 1, 2014, Virginia International Terminals (VIT) went live with Advent’s eModal appointment system at Norfolk International Terminal (NIT). After selecting eModal as their preferred appointment system in March 2014, VIT has since partnered with Advent to conduct a substantial training effort to educate VIT’s trucking community and to assist terminal personnel in configuring and supporting the application. VIT and Advent’s eModal customer service department are currently providing support to the trucking community during the initial implementation phase of eModal.
Although an appointment is not considered mandatory for a visit to NIT, the terminal highly recommends that the trucking community complies with the program in preparation for future mandatory appointments. VIT eventually plans to enforce appointment compliance in conjunction with a new gate system and existing terminal automation. Their terminal’s ultimate goal is to optimize terminal operations and decrease truck turn times in the Port of Virginia. The date for mandatory program compliance is yet to be announced.
