In 2010, APM Terminals contracted Advent to provide a gate appointment solution for their Pier 400 facility in Los Angeles, California, in order to utilize equipment and labor more efficiently. The appointment system encompasses all gate transaction types, and allows users to reserve time slots for container pick-up and drop-off. Appointment data is also visible in the terminal operating system for yard planning and allocations. The primary users of the system are truckers, consignees, and US Customs.

The Advent appointment system has proven to be beneficial to APM, in that it helps improve labor management, levels terminal activity, and increases terminal planning efficiency, which, in turn provides better service to the trucking community. By using the Advent appointment system, APM has been able to save more than $1 million dollars a year in administrative and operational costs.
